The ROBUSTOO workshop “ENZYMES FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE: Biocatalysis serving the Bioeconomy”, organized by our project partner Consorzio Italbiotec, was a great success!
On June 25th, 2025, at the Università degli Studi di Milano Bicocca, researchers, industry experts, and innovators gathered to explore how biocatalysis can transform industrial processes and drive the bioeconomy forward.
Participants were treated to a journey through cutting-edge research and industrial applications: from the fascinating world of cold-active enzymes for biomass valorization, shared by Marco Mangiagalli (Università di Milano Bicocca), to innovative routes for transforming agri-food waste into valuable compounds, presented by Celeste Nobbio (Politecnico di Milano). Marco Pistocchi (Biosphere srl) shed light on the challenges and opportunities in manufacturing tailor-made biocatalysts, while Silvia Valente (BiCT srl) illustrated how biocatalytic innovation is making industries greener.
Adding a broader perspective, Kelly Lim-Trinh from the Technical University of Munich brought insights into hydrogenases for sustainable hydrogen production, also offering a glimpse into CirculH2, ROBUSTOO’s sister project.
The day concluded with a World Café-style networking session, sparking engaging discussions about the future of bioeconomy and sustainability while fostering valuable connections among academia and industry.
A big thank you to Consorzio Italbiotec for organizing this impactful event, and to all speakers and attendees for making it such an insightful experience!
Stay tuned for more updates from the ROBUSTOO project as we continue to unlock the potential of biocatalysis for a sustainable future.
