On 28 January 2026, ROBUSTOO took part in the outreach initiative “Ciencia con Chocolate” in Madrid, an event designed to bring science closer to citizens in an informal and engaging setting.
During her talk, entitled “Tailor-Made Enzymes through Directed Evolution to Develop Sustainable Industrial Processes”, our coordinator introduced the concept of protein engineering, with particular emphasis on directed evolution as a powerful tool to design improved biocatalysts. The presentation highlighted examples from the ROBUSTOO project, showcasing ongoing efforts to develop robust enzymatic catalysts for bio-based industrial applications, including the valorization of kraft lignin.
Approximately 25 participants, including university students and members of the general public, attended the event and actively engaged in the discussion that followed. The session provided an opportunity to explore how advanced biotechnological approaches not only expand scientific frontiers but also contribute to the transition towards more sustainable, efficient, and environmentally responsible industrial processes.
